Visa Regulations

After receiving the confirmation letter from your university, you have to apply for a visa. Details about visa procedures and application form can be obtained directly from the German Embassy in Gyaneshwor, Kathmandu or from the nearest German Embassy or Consulates (if you are applying from outside Nepal), or just download from here

Visa Application Form:

You will be asked to produce a separate list of documents, besides visa application, that you MUST have when you submit the form.

Normally it is stated that the visa procedure will take about 6 weeks, so it is wise to apply 2 months before your departure date (you can also ask the embassy to fax your papers, which is comparatively faster but you have to pay some extra charge in order to speed up the process). German embassy generally sends your documents to the respective foreign offices of the city where you would be going and that is why they ask for 6 weeks of time.

There are basically three kinds of visa entitlements for education purpose:

Applicant's visa: For those who want to visit Germany and inquire about the universities or to attend the language course here itself.

Student's visa: The normal visa that is given to the students who would start their studies only at the universities. Since Studienkolleg, belongs to the university, this also falls under the student category.

Visa for Researchers: This visa is considered as a working visa and the family of the researchers can accompany with or come later to Germany.

What you need:

Please do not submit any fake documents like Bank transaction and Property evaluation certificate. And make sure that you at least know what you want to study in Germany, before you go to the German Embassy. There have been such cases, yes trust us, which we personally learned from Visa consulate during our meeting in Septembet 2007. It is not like going to otherside of No Man's land. You must be able to convince the embassy that your sole propose to go to Germany is to study. So you must appear determined and please don't tell them, you will decide later on what you want to study once you are in Germany, and once you have tasted Bitburger Bitburger

Let's talk about MONEY!!

If you have a scholarship from Germany, all you need is the proper documents from your sponsor. It is always wise to ask the embassy staffs for what you need to submit. If you have a Nepalese sponsor, regardless to your relation, you must have a typed letter of sponsorship signed by your sponsor. It is better to have a letter pad if your sponsor is a sole entrepreneur. It must be stated that the sponsor has agreed to bear your expenses for the complete duration of your study in Germany. It is estimated to be at least 600 Euros per month. If your sponsor is a German, your sponsor must go through some bureaucratic procedures at the local foreign office and send you the approval sponsorship letter.

NOTE: You can easily extend or change your "Applicant's visa" into "Student's visa" in Germany provided you have all the required documents and enough bank statement with you. Always make photocopies of all the documents that you have collected, received or made and produce them to the visa office and also file them. If you have all the papers, information and everything that is needed and ready to submit them, do ask the visa officer for the date of response. They may also take your Interview.
